Daniel Eisenbud's Appalachian Trail Page

I spent the months from March to August, 2001, hiking the length of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Here's my web page about the experience. More pictures are coming any day now, I promise!

NEWS! Here are my Maine photos, only 2.5 years late. The scans are from the negatives and aren't perfect, in particular the ones of the sunrise from Katahdin, but the better lit pictures came out pretty well. I'll scan the rest next time I'm in Boston, where I have access to the film scanner.

Me on top of Mt. Katahdin.

Me on top of Mt. Katahdin with my backpack (almost empty, I left a lot of my stuff at the base of the mountain to pick up on the way down.) Note the "HEAVY" tag, which the airline put on my original pack when I flew to Atlanta to start my hike. That's how I got my trail name, "Heavy".

Flippy the Flounder, Hummingbird, and I toast to our victory in the parking lot in Baxter State Park afterwards.

A picture (166 K) of me hanging out at a big bonfire with lots of hikers outside of Erwin, Tennessee. I'll post a more reasonable scaled version sometime when I get a chance. Another picture (214 K) of me sitting dealing with my mail outside of the post office in Duncannon, Pennsylvania.
