I saw the doctor today, and she said I shouldn't worry about my leg unless it gets much worse or is still numb in a month. She gave me some anti-inflammatory to calm it down and hopefuly make it better soon, and noticed that I had a fever and sinus infection to boot, which is probably what slowed me down to fourteen miles a day during the last seventy miles of hiking. So I'm off, either this afternoon or tomorrow. I've had a great time in Erwin, but I'm getting a bit twitchy from unaccustomedly being around so many people and being in the same place for so long. I'll be glad to be back in the woods. As for the schedule of when you can mail me, I'm about a week behind. This is no real problem, but you can mail letters about a week later to any given maildrop than it said on the schedule I mailed. I'll update the copy of the schedule at and also put a link to a nice picture Murphy took of me at the party at the campground a few days ago. It's huge, so don't even bother over a slow connection. I like the picture enough that I'll scale it to a resonable size when I get done with the trip and put it somewhere. It will also reveal that I'm not starving to death, despite the concern that some of you expressed. I think the scale in Hot Springs was wacky, and if I did even lose any weight, I've gained it back in four days of constant eating here in civilization, which is good. :-) I hope all of you are well. Wish me luck as I climb the secdond-highest peak of the AT as the temperatures drop into the single digits or so at night, and it starts to snow. It should be fun, and certainly no worse than what we went through near the Georgia-North Carolina border. -Dan(iel) -- Daniel E. Eisenbud eisenbud@cs.swarthmore.edu
