Noah Smith talk

Tuesday, April 19, 2005
1:15 PM Science Center 256

All students and faculty are invited to join the CS97 Senior Seminar class this Tuesday at 1:15 for a guest lecture by Noah Smith. If you have an interest in NLP, Theory (in particular, things like Context Free Grammars), or Compilers (in particular, parsing), this talk is for you!

Noah's lecture will be about modeling natural language (e.g., English) grammar. The lecture will demonstrate why this is computationally challenging and explore some techniques for doing so, considering various tradeoffs between expressivity and efficiency. The lecture will introduce some algorithms for parsing natural language with an emphasis on empirical approaches.
