Abstract

Large data centers host thousands of services and end-user applications, and for efficiency, they multiplex these services across a shared network infrastructure. Service operators expect the network to provide their services with critical functionality like route selection, performance isolation, load balancing, and other important features. Current network designs provide these functions in a one-size-fits all manner that fails to account for varying service needs.

In this talk, we present Blender, a framework that resolves this dilemma by allowing service operators to tailor a customized mix of network features for each service. We focus on the problem of network performance isolation and show that Blender can effectively strike a balance between network efficiency and predictable service performance.
