graduate school discussion
The CS department will present a lunch-time discussion about graduate school in CS -- what it is like, getting in, etc. -- this Wednesday, October 10th, at 12:25. Pizza and soda will be available. All CS students are welcome. Even if you don't think you are going to graduate school, it might be interesting. It should be especially valuable for Juniors and Seniors considering the possibility of graduate school. Faculty will make short presentations and then we will open the floor for questions and discussion.
General topics include:
- What CS Graduate School is like? - The first two years and beyond
- What is CS research like?
- Is graduate school right for you?
- Masters degree or Ph.D?
- How do you apply?
- How do you choose schools/advisors?
- Taking the GRE's
- Differences between a top 5, top 10, top 20, or top 50 program
- Getting good letters of recommendation
- What to do now to improve your chances of getting accepted
- Things we wish we knew in/before grad school
- Any questions you may have
