Project 6: Demo
- Deadline: Tuesday, May 6, 1:00pm
Overview
Learning Goals
By the end of this assignment, you'll have practiced how to communicate to a large audience and how to manage your time to give an impactful presentation on a system that you spent several weeks building.
Requirements
By the deadline, you should have:
- Analyzed your findings — Outlined and practiced your presentation — Uploaded your final presentation slides to your Google Drive folder
Submission
- By the deadline, your Google Drive folder should contain a copy of your presentation. You do not have to use Google Slides, but make sure your presentation is uploaded to your Drive folder.
Analyze Your Findings
Now that you've surveyed 10 users and collected in-depth qualitative feedback from two users, you'll need to analyze your findings. For your quantitative data analysis, generate statistics based on survey data, e.g., the average and range of a specific rating, and generate bar graphs for questions where relevant. For your qualitative data, identify some commonalities in user feedback. Don't just focus on the positives (or negatives) that users mentioned, try to identify both types of feedback.
Outline and Practice
A good presentation is one that you've practiced multiple times. A great presentation is one that has been outlined: you've mapped out what topics to speak on and for how long. Make sure to construct a clear narrative to tell the audience, identifying what message you want to convey, and provide an impactful conclusion.
Presentation
Prepare a 15 minute presentation, reserving at least 5 minutes for your system demo. Every team member must present, but you can choose how to divide up time.
Your presentation should contain:
- A brief overview of the problem motivating your system and your competitors.
- A brief overview of the main features of your system that addresses the problem.
- A discussion of the technical components of your system.
- A live demo of your system (5 minutes).
- An overview of your findings from the surveys and interviews. You should include numbers and/or graphs, as well as quotes from any open-ended questions and from your interiviews.
- A discussion of the succesful elements of your system as well as limitations or areas for improvement. — A meta-discussion of what you learned by working on the project.
- An attempt to introduce humor to keep the audience engaged :).
Your presentation should also reference academic literature, where relevant, and these references should be listed on your last slide (after your concluding slide). You might reference research papers we've discussed in class or that you've found yourself. The goal in referencing research could be to: (a) motivate your system, (b) as inspiration for certain features of your system, (c) to contextualize your findings, and/or (d) as avenues for future work. Aim to reference at least three relevant research articles.
