Suggestions for labs and assignments

There is a CD ROM [2] of animated algorithms that was written to accompany Cormen, Leiserson, and Rivest's textbook [1] that contains some easy to use demonstrations of genetic algorithms. I will show these during the Macintosh Lab session at Bryn Mawr.

If your course includes a major project, implementing a GA and applying it to a particular problem can be a challenging project for a good student. Goldberg's textbook [3] includes all the Pascal code needed to implement a standard genetic algorithm, so a student would not need to write this code from scratch.
