cut and paste

action emacs vim (in command mode)
cut a single line control-k dd
paste what you cut control-y p (after cursor)
delete region of text control-space, move, control-w V, move, d (or y to copy)

In X-windows, you can usually cut and paste from one window to another by dragging over text with the left mouse button, then hitting the middle mouse button to paste it.
